What is the proper way to update/upgrade an existing installation? I have tried disabling the Internet, running the install exe's with the "/s" switch and then overwrite files with the cracked ones. However, MDaemon will not start and I get an error similar to the one posted below but the error I get also includes the fake serial number that works before I update: Is there a way to update/upgrade an existing installation that does not require all of the same steps that are needed for a fresh install such as having to connect to the Alt-n servers to download a 30 day trial license, first, and then manually editing the license file and other settings?
/s is the way to do it.. If a setting isn't working you should check if "data" setting is 0 or 1, for MD and AV it should be 1, for AS it should be 0. Also edit the releasedates of the current versions correctly. When installing the "altered" files, make sure Mdaemon, Wdaemon and if applicable ISS aren't running, otherwile files won't be overwritten. And as a last resort you could re-ask a valid trial key, if nessecary with a new gmail, hotmail or whatever account. If they won't give you one because the IP is registered, ask a friend to get a key for you. (that worked for me the last time)
The /s switch works just fine when you block the connection via firewall or put proper stuff to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\HOSTS file: 0.0.0.0 files.altn.com 0.0.0.0 www.altn.com 0.0.0.0 services.altn.com
What is the "Data" setting for? I have a "1" for MD, "0" for AV and "0" for AS. Everything seems to be fully functional with those Data settings. These Data settings were set by the installer when it installed the trial license. The release dates are correct. I did make sure none of the services or processes were running when I copied the "cracked" files but I still got the error about using a fake key. To fix, I copied the entire 'C:\MDaemon' folder as a backup. In the original folder, I deleted the 'C:\MDaemon\License' folder. In the original folder, I opened the 'C:\MDaemon\App\MDaemon.ini' file and removed all serials. Then I installed without the "/s" switch and let it install with a trial license. Next, I edited the license file and "MDaemon.ini" and copied the cracked files. Everything seems to be working just fine but having to install with a trial license and manually editing the files every time there's an update is frustrating. I already had "0.0.0.0 services.altn.com" in the hosts file. I will add the other two entries. However, when I installed with the "/s" switch, I was disconnected from the Internet and still got the invalid key error. Thanks to both of you for responding to my question. I really appreciate it I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong when I try to update with the "/s" switch. Every time I update to a newer version, I have to install with a trial license and manually edit the license file and the ini file as if it was a fresh install. At least my settings remain intact but it takes so much more time when installing with a trial license.
